Purchase Pipe Fittings And Plumbing Sections To Install A Secondhand Dishwasher

Installing a used dishwasher that you picked up from a yard sale will require you to attach plumbing pieces to the backside of the unit, to ensure proper water access and drainage. You will need to invest in some industrial supplies, including flexible or rigid pipe sections, fittings, and adapters.

Be Aware Of The Requirements

The type of plumbing that you choose will depend upon the length of coverage that is needed, the model of the dishwasher, and whether or not there are extenuating circumstances that will require specific fitting or pipe materials. For instance, if moisture buildup in your kitchen poses a threat to standard pipe sections that could rust, you may want to choose flexible pipe sections or ones that are constructed of stainless steel, brass, copper, or another non-corrosive material.

The dishwasher will need to be attached to the waterline and sink drain. Inspect the water line and drain plumbing to determine what type of fittings will be needed. The water line will need to feed directly into the back of the dishwasher and the drain line will need to be attached to the plumbing that is under the kitchen sink. If either line is constructed of a rigid material that cannot be bent, you may need an elbow fitting.

An elbow fitting will change the direction of the plumbing and ensure that water is dispersed through all of the plumbing. If your dishwasher didn't come with a manual and you would like to verify the exact plumbing requirements that are necessary for the setup, contact the manufacturer of the product or consult with a plumber, to acquire a listing of supplies that will aid in the installation.

Purchase Additional Pieces And Take Precautions

Turn off the water supply, prior to detaching the end of the water line and drain line and installing attachment pieces that will bridge the gap between the plumbing and the dishwasher. The dishwasher should be disconnected during the installation process. Use the information you obtained through a guide or a consultant, to aid you in choosing pipe fittings, tools, and other industrial supplies that are needed to perform the installation.

If you are hesitant about choosing a specific plumbing layout or if you may be installing another appliance in the future that utilizes water that will need a versatile plumbing setup, purchase some plug and cap fittings, cross fittings, or elbow sleeves, to assist with blocking off the ends of pipes or rerouting the plumbing so that it will accommodate more than one appliance.

After you have installed the plumbing and checked the pieces to ensure that they are secure, move the dishwasher back against the wall and plug in the appliance. After turning the water supply on, use the dishwasher to complete a test run.
